I work towards understanding the relationship between behavior and biology as it underlies much of science’s most basic questions. I believe technology is a critical tool in examining these relationships. I enjoy finding solutions to problems and fixing broken systems.
Currently, I spend the majority of my time as Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Ucardia where I build a system that provides patients with virtual cardiac rehabilitation. I’m so proud to be bringing cardiac rehabilitation into a new data driven, digital era!
I’ve spent time building programs that collect, process, and analyze data of most types. Though not a trained computer scientist I’m driven to teach myself how to make things work. From woodworking and canvas painting to system development and analytic pipelines I love building things.
I have experience wrangling raw data from claims, peripherally connected Bluetooth devices, apps, arrays, or clinical tests into analytic sets to perform a multitude of statistical and algorithmic methods. I love working in R (this site is build in R) but when a task calls for something else I’ll usually be able to accomplish it in Python. Like many data nerds I have strong opinions about having good code hygiene with clear annotation and formatting - so if you feel like
Team work and collaboration are a critical part of almost everything I do. Its important to get a different perspective and get everyone on board with the what, why, and how of a project and having the patience to do that.
My commitment to team work drives my leadership style. In leadership positions I think it’s important to leave your ego at the door and enable everyone to do whatever it is they do best.
I have a bachelor’s degree in biology, a masters in public health (MPH), an MS, and a PhD. Each degree has given me a different perspective on research, work, and finding solutions and answers. Here’s how it played out over time:
I’ve been part of a bunch of projects! Most have been published so please see my publications for the most details. Here are some broad topics.
